Understanding The ULEZ Scrappage Scheme In London: How Does It Work

The ULEZ scrappage scheme in London is a government-funded scheme designed to help reduce air pollution and improve air quality in London. It is part of the Mayor of London’s Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ) initiative, which is aimed at reducing emissions from vehicles in the city.

The ULEZ scrappage plan in London works by offering a financial incentive for people to scrap their older, more polluting vehicles and replace them with newer, cleaner models. The scheme is open to residents of London who own a car that meets certain criteria.

The vehicle must be registered in London and must have been registered before 1st October 2020. The vehicle must also be a petrol or diesel model registered before 2006. To be eligible for the ULEZ scrappage scheme, you must have owned the vehicle for at least 12 months before the date you apply. You must also be the registered keeper of the vehicle.

Your vehicle will then be scrapped and you can then use the incentive to purchase a new vehicle that is compliant with the ULEZ standards. The new vehicle must be a petrol or diesel model registered on or after 1st October 2020. The vehicle must also meet the ULEZ emissions standards of Euro 6 or 6d for petrol vehicles, and Euro 4 or 6d for diesel vehicles. The incentive can be used to purchase a new vehicle through participating dealerships or via a private sale.
